Frequently asked questions about Solar Panels

Is it time to invest in solar?

Solar panels make an excellent investment. Solar panels can cut up to 90% off your energy bill and as electricity costs continue to rise they will continue to save you money. Solar panel installations have risen 80% in the last year alone but monetary benefits aside, any solar panels are worth it for protecting the environment and reducing your carbon footprint.

Would solar work for me?

Each of the systems that we install are bespoke to the customer. Solar systems depend on a range of factors. The location, size, angle, orientation, and shading of your roof. How much of the electricity generated you are able to use – for example whether you are often home during the day, would battery storage then be a benefit? Each of these things are addressed closely when we assess whether solar would be beneficial for you.

How does Solar work?

The sun gives off light, when it shines onto a solar panel the cells in the panel collect the energy and turn it into DC energy, this runs through a solar inverter which converts in into AC energy ready for you to use in your home.

Do solar panels produce when the sun isn’t shining?

Solar panels don’t require sunshine in order to produce they just need daylight, on overcast or darker days the solar generation would be less than it would be on a bright sunny day but they will still generate electricity.

What are the financial benefits?

The most obvious financial benefit to having a solar pv installation is that it can significantly lower your energy bill.

Any power that you generate from your solar pv system is power that you aren’t buying from the grid.

When a solar pv system produces more power than you can use or store, it will be sent back to grid, providing that you meet all other eligibility requirements you can be paid for this under the Smart Energy Guarantee (SEG)

What are the environmental benefits?

Solar is a renewable source of energy.

Greenhouses gases are a contributor to climate change, solar energy can help to reduce the amount of greenhouse gases.

They reduce air pollution. Solar is a sustainable and clean source of energy that doesn’t produce harmful secretes into the air.

They reduce reliance on fossil fuels, because its renewable and clean using solar lessens the use of fossil fuels.

What warranties will I receive?

As each system is bespoke the warranties that belong to each system will be different. In general terms you will receive warranties for the solar pv panels, the inverter, the battery/ies and a workmanship warranty. Each installation will also have an Insurance Backed Guarantee from HIES.

Do Solar pv panels require maintenance?

Solar panels generally require very little maintenance and you shouldn’t need any extra maintenance packages for them. Should they become soiled a gentle wash with a soft cloth and warm soapy water will suffice. Local window cleaners are a great option for this.

Do solar panels work in a blackout situation?

The systems that we install all have an Emergency Power Supply as a built-in feature. Should a power cut occur then you will have access to the energy that is stored in your batteries to use until power is restored.
